An Amazing School Trip

It was 21st of June, the last day of school before the expected summer holidays.

Mrs. Garcia has organized a school trip to Cortegada Island. Children were anxious about that school trip. They were looking forward since their teacher told them the legend about the Cortegada Island Giant Lizard: "It is said that a giant lizard lives in Cortegada Island and it does not allowed anyone to reach the south part of the island where it is supposed he lives. People who tried never returned". Although this was only a legend, children expected something fantastic could happen that school trip day.

Early in the morning, students arrived at school with their lunches in their rucksacks, their caps and the sun cream on their faces and bodies.

After a beautiful ten minutes’ walk along the promenade, they reached the harbour, where a boat was waiting for them. The boat trip lasted fifteen minutes.

The 8 years old children arrived to the Cortegada Island with Mrs. Garcia. Everything was peaceful in there. It could be heard the sound of the birds, the movements of the leaves and the waves of the sea. Everything was calm until the children arrived. They started to shout and run without control. Mrs. Garcia had advised them that the Giant Lizard did not like noise but they did not take care of it.

Suddenly, they heard a big noise; it was as if someone was roaring. (It was Mrs. Garcia with a megaphone but no children could saw her). The roar came from a cave in the south part of the island. Students wanted to guess what it was. Therefore, Mrs. Garcia went with the children into the dark cave. When all of them got into, they could saw a big lizard shadow. Some of the students shouted but all of them wanted to see the Giant Lizard. Thus, they walked a little bit more. Finally, they realized that is was a big inflatable lizard. Mrs Garcia had put it there while they were shouting and running everywhere. This in how Mrs. Garcia used her superpower of getting children involved in to introduce them to the topic she wanted to explain that day. Pupils learned about vegetation of the island, animals living there and how to be respectful with the environment. After that, they all had lunch and enjoyed the day at the beach.

It was an amazing day before summer holidays, wasn’t it?
