The Story of a Backpack

* Tetiana

It was one of those last summer days in August when September was about to take control of the next season. Eliza woke up with the first sunrays coming through the window in her bedroom. She smiled thinking about the job she received the day before. It was really what she wanted so much as she always dreamed about working with children. She got up quickly, had her favourite ground coffee and hurried to the center of the town to do some shopping for the beginning of the school year. Eliza was enthusiastic about it. She was walking along the bustling street full of shoppers thinking about what she should buy first.

Suddenly a small shop caught her eyes because of the beautiful colours round its door and windows. Eliza walked through the entrance and found herself among many various school things. No one seemed to be in the shop, light music came from somewhere Eliza could not see, but she moved with its sound as she looked at all the wonderful school objects in the shop. She saw a blue and yellow bag with an interesting pattern on its top. She touched it gently feeling that it was the one she was looking for.

"A great choice", the woman's voice surprised Eliza. "I'm sorry I didn't know anyone was here". "It's okay, my dear. I knew you would be here. It’s an unusual bag,“she went on. The content inside it is all that knowledge we give children. The outside of the bag can help you quickly appear in the place you need. It may help you do things you never thought were possible.”

“But how…”

The woman put the finger on Eliza’s lips so that she couldn’t talk.

“Listen and I will tell you the story of this backpack through times,” she said.

And she told that since ancient times people strove for knowledge and there were always educated men and women who taught others to be literate. They were respected by everyone and people called them “teachers” and their mission was to educate children.

Eliza saw how teachers lived thousands of years ago, what they did, and she saw the young woman with the same backpack smiling to her. She felt very peaceful.

When she opened her eyes, she was outside in the street again, there was no school shop anymore. She sighed: “What a strange dream!” and turned around to walk away when she saw that amazing backpack standing on the ground. Eliza couldn’t believe her eyes.

Since then Eliza carried her backpack everywhere. She could appear quickly in any place doing a lot of things and finding time for everything. She understood all the importance of what she did. She was chosen together with others to give knowledge, influence the world and touch the future. Because she was a “TEACHER”.
