The sea I love

Finally she was exhausted. The whole week had been a constant trial and in the end it had managed to beat her. Sleep was scarce. Not only her duties at work but also the household chores kept her busy for most of the day and night. She had to take care of everyone and everything. She had to think beforehand and anticipate as well as think back and contemplate.

Not only that week but most of the year was like that. Responsibilities seemed to her like a big mountain she had to climb, problems looked like an endless path she could only choose to take. Because if it wasn't her, who else would tackle all those problems? She was the pillar: everyone depended on her because she was the strongest of all, the most resistant of all, the most persistent and the most resourceful of all.

That day she decided to do something different. Instead of staying at home to cook and clean and get everything in order, she took her beach towel and off to the beach she went.

She spent the whole day at the sea. Drifting in the waves. Diving. Splashing about in the cool water. Floating. Lying on the golden sand feeling the warmth of the earth. Listening to the gentle sound of the waves breaking at her feet. Watching the seagulls hunting for food. Closing her eyes and dreaming. Then opening them to watch the fabulous sunset, a red sun diving into the sea painting the sky in velvet colours.

She thought the Sun was calling her to catch him. She swam far out in the sea to reach him in his bed but she knew the Sun is quick at hiding and gave up playing his game. She was out of breath. But as she was coming out of the water she felt the evening air in her face. She felt strong again as if she was a new person.

The next day was the first day at school. She turned up at work smiling as always. Brand new and ready for the new year ahead. The sea had worked miracles again. Her beloved sea which she would miss...
