Pheziopoi

* Betina Astride (Portugal)

Let me tell you a short story about a man. His name is Pheziopoi and he lives somewhere out there.

What a strange name! you may say. In fact it’s a strange name but that is not the only thing strange...

Every morning Pheziopoi gets up very very early. He doesn’t have to but he has a kind of an inner clock that pushes him to open his eyes and all the windows at home. If he stays longer, he cannot stand the sound of giant bells inside his head.

So, after a little breakfast, he takes his bag and rides his bike for 19 kilometers till the school. Yes, he is a teacher in another village.

As you can imagine, he is the very first one to arrive but all that morninging, as he used to say, doesn’t bring a special touch to his daily life. You know, there are morning people who spread good vibes wherever. Unfortunately, that is not his case.

He is a quiet, tedious and smileless teacher. Children, once inside his classroom, get deeply unhappy and in consequence they don’t do any effort to learn. For some time there is a growing concern among parents, of course, specially because of their children’s happiness lack.

Thus, last Tuesday, when Pheziopoi arrived at school he couldn’t believe his eyes. A big group of parents and children were already their with big unkind charts and megaphones shouting “Pheziopoi go away, we don’t want you to stay!”.

He felt tremendously smashed! His face turned green, his hands were streaking as plastic and while everybody was approaching him like a hurricane, he collapsed. A huge green smoke came out from him to the sky and a loud sound of bells could be heard.

Suddenly, a deadly silence grown and the unexpected happened.

Parents and children were strongly surprised. They put on their O. M. G. face expression because of the weird scene of the teacher. Pheziopoi turned into an ogre!

No one could believe it! An ogre! Stunishing and shocking… People were still silent and maybe a bit afraid.

Furthermore, when Pheziopoi was getting up, another strong sound started. It came out from the bike; it seemed as the little bell on it was shaking and BBLLIIIIMMMMMM… a scarce green smoke flied to the sky and his bike turned into a donkey!

This time everybody started to laugh out loud! It was hilarious!

Surprisingly, parents and children were so happy with the unbelievable changes that they came close to the teacher Pheziopoi and the donkey Bike and decided to give him another chance.

That fact gave to the teacher such an enormous strength that from that day on when he was in a really uncomfortable situation he had the superpower of being astonishingly unexpected and no one could be half-hearted. “Pheozopoi, stay! We want you anyway!”

I’m not sure if people said so but that's what was inside his mind.
